fast. It doesn’t lunge around or shout about its abilities or behave like a caffeinated teenager in a carbon-fibre tracksuit. Instead, the GT S gathers speed with absolute conviction. The electric motor provides the immediate shove, the V8 piles in with muscle and sound, and the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission keeps the whole enterprise moving with discipline. The effect is not shocking so much as mighty. That distinction matters. There are plenty of electrified vehicles capable of savage acceleration in a straight line. In some cases, that’s the entire personality. Hit the pedal, watch the horizon rush forward, repeat until the novelty fades. The Continental GT S is playing a different game. The plug-in hybrid system is not a party trick; it’s a supporting structure. At low speeds, the electric motor brings refinement. The car can slip away from a hotel entrance or through a quiet village with very little commotion, all long hood and low menace. But when the V8 wakes up, the character changes completely. The engine brings warmth to the experience, a pulse, a sense of occasion. Sound and vibration and mechanical presence still matter, perhaps even more now that so many fast cars have gone silent. The roads through New York’s Lower Hudson Valley are a useful testing ground.
