PIN HIGH
GOLF AS LIFE
Story I
Michael LoRé
AT FIRST GLANCE, THE similarities between luxury automobiles and golf are as blurry as a Ferrari or Lamborghini whizzing past. Simply looking at a high-end auto swells up sensations of endless possibilities and excitement. Anticipation transforms into reality once you’re inside, touching the leather steering wheel, shifting the car into drive and stepping on the gas. The road is yours. And the power. Oh, the power. Similarly, as you step up to the first tee, those same feelings are on your mind as you look to concentrate on the task at hand: driving the ball down the middle of the fairway with as much power as the V12 engine propelling you down the road. Whether you’re on the road or the golf course, keeping your emotions and reactions under control is of the utmost importance. When it’s all said and done, you look back on it fondly—the journey, the destination, the company, the experience. That’s the thing about golf. Not only is it a great physical activity, but the benefits of the game are seemingly endless. It’s a much-needed respite from the daily grind. It’s reconnecting with Mother Nature. It’s enjoying the company of friends and family or even new acquaintances. It’s enjoyable yet challenging. It’s a never-ending quest for perfection. That’s why 136 million Americans engaged in golf in some capacity in 2025. It’s why Golf Canada saw a record 11.2 million scores posted on the Golf Canada app last year. Golf is the great equalizer. Golf doesn’t care if you’re Rory McIlroy or Michael LoRé. Golf will humble everyone, and yet, we all keep coming back for more. We launched Pin High to bring you along for the ride with this great game. This
year, we’re changing things up a bit. We’ll continue featuring courses and experiences, but we also want to explore more golf- adjacent topics, including hotels, resorts, and insights from industry-leading voices. Golf is evolving. It’s younger. It’s more diverse. It’s more mainstream. It can be enjoyed for four hours on a Sunday morning or a 30-minute simulator session on your Tuesday lunch break. Your relationship with the game is what you make of it. No one way is right or wrong. As long as we’re all respectful of one another and the game’s rules, integrity and traditions, golf will continue to grow, improve and become more accessible for even more people to enjoy for years to come.
